Vakantie in Galicië

Wat te zien in Galicie

Zie bijvoorbeld rit naar Finisterre.

Stranden , o.a. Praia das Catedrais

Las Islas Cíes, 1st position in the World ranking of beaches for The Guardian.

Verder is Portugal natuurlijk ook een optie. Porto ligt ten zuiden slechts op ongeveer 2,5 uur rijden (met de auto).

Rías gallegas

A ria is a submergent coastal landform, often known as a drowned valley or drowned river valley. Rias are almost always estuaries. Rias form where sea levels rise relative to the land either as a result of eustatic sea level change; where the global sea levels rise or isostatic sea level change; where the land sinks.

The word "ria" is of Portuguese or Galician origin. Rias can be found also in Asturias in Spain and in Portugal (Aveiro) but the most important are on the northern and western coast of Galicia.

The rias have shaped the development of Galicia as the population tended to cluster on their banks. A Coruña, Pontevedra, and Vigo are major ports. Fishing, and the production of shellfish on platforms (bateas) in the rias, are well-developed. The Rias region is one of high rainfall and moderate temperatures — between 0°C and 30°C. The sceneries and the beaches along these calm, relatively warm waters, attract tourists to such resorts as Sanxenxo and A Toxa.

Rías baixas

Stad van referentie: Pontevedra (muy recomendable). Activiteit: wandelen in de oude stad, wijnen en tapas overal.

Optie A

Van Pontevedra rijden naar Sanxenxo. Visit Combarro (typical fishermen town, very recommendable), we continue until A Lanzada (fabulous beach), they can go to Island of La Toja, and will finish e.g. in Cambados (that deserves a visit, watered with albariño wine). You surely remember that after about 1 km direction Vilagarcía we have the Tropezón (the only restaurant of the world that has oysters for dessert). (Ask Marije about this :-)

Optie B

From Pontevedra you can also take the way to Marín (I love the restaurant Submarino, very cheap seafood, good quality at "european" prices). We can stop at the Lapamán beach (one of my favourite beaches) to have a bath or take a nap.

We continue on the road along the coast until we reach the Ría de Aldán (any of its beaches will be fabulous). Obligatory a visit to Cabo de Home, from where we can almost touch the Islas Cíes and frem where we can enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets in the whole known world.

Islas Cíes

The most adventurous would have continue until Vigo, where you can also see the same or even better sunset, and can have dinner WITH ME!!! in the Maruja Limón (both things are priceless).

Las Islas Cíes, 1st position in the World ranking of beaches for The Guardian:

Mention Spanish beaches and most people instinctively think of the Mediterranean. Yet the wilder, stunning Atlantic coastline of Galicia, just north of Portugal, has far more dramatic praias – with far fewer people on them. One of the jewels of this coast is on Las Islas Cies, a 40-minute boat trip from the pretty town of Baiona. Once a pirates' haunt, Cies is now an uninhabited and pristine national park, open to the public only in summer. Galegos come here to spend long, lazy summer days on the Praia das Rodas, a perfect crescent of soft, pale sand backed by small dunes sheltering a calm lagoon of crystal-clear sea.

Locals call this their "Caribbean beach", and the water is turquoise enough, the sand white enough to believe the comparison … until you dip your toe in the water. Then it feels more like Skegness. You can sleep in an idyllic campsite, shaded by tall pine trees, with a view over the ocean. And, this being Spain, there's even a proper restaurant serving great seafood.

Where to stay: Camping Islas Cies is open Easter week and June-September.

Optie

Those ultra-adventurous can in any case sleep nearby and go until the border with Portugal next morning. Good shopping in the UNESCO World Heritages ValenÇa do Minho and Tui. Interested in Portugal? Just tell me, this is another chapter.

Rias Altas (Or how the barnacle beated the Lion King).

It should be: Costa da Morte.

City of reference: A Coruña.

Time of the recommended itinerary 2 days. The brave ones can do it in one. Santiago direction Muros. Brief stroll there, without going too much into the town. Muros-Fisterra Way: we can stop in: beach San Francisco (4-5 km of Walls + -), beach of Ancoradoiro (8-9 kms Walls) very and marks the end of the ría and the beginning of the open sea. Beach of Carnota (7-8 kms of beach). Nevertheless what I recommend is that they arrive, with the halts that they consider necessary, until the beach of A Langosteira in the same Finisterre (Fisterra) (wonderful beach, and very comfortable), where besides to bathe, to see girls in bikini (exceptionally some top-less) they will be able to eat a wonderful "lubina on its back" in the restaurant that is in the end of the beach but near the town that is called Tira do Cordel (Strip the Cord).

Rested the food calmly (2 h of beach) I would go until Camariñas , concretely to Cabo Vilano (surely the most impressive cape of Galicia - that they will be able to compare with the visit which --although I have not mentioned-- they would have done to the lighthouse of Finisterre). From, if they are capable and taking advantage of the putting Sun, I would take a dirt road 100 m from the lighthouse) and would go slowly along it, stopping from time to time, enjoying the temperature and the spectacular views (another one of the best sunsets of the world-wide world). Finally the road will finish (nobody gets scared) and I would try to look for Laxe (about 10 minutes away) to spend the night there, to flirt and have a drink. They can also come back to Santiago: they are one hour away (around eleven we would wait for them with open arms and the wine in the glasses).
