About viewing modes in the SVI-wiki
1. You normally read the pages in the default Browse mode.
But you can
Print or Fax an article by clicking in these links (above or below the
article). To go back to the Browse mode, click on the SVI logo on the top.
2. In the Print (color) and Fax (b&w) modes, the WikiWordsLinks are
expanded to Wiki Words Links for better reading. Some formatting is given
to the page.
3. All the paragraphs beginning with @ are considered comments that will not appear in the Print or Fax version. All the paragraphs beginning with @@ are to print only, and will not appear in browse mode. This is useful to have alternative image sizes for printing, for example.
- This line will disappear in the Print or Fax modes.
4. After @, @@, or directly at the begining of one line, the string (SVI) will restrict the displaying of that line to members of SVI only. This is not secure (as the line can be seen in the edit mode), but will ease the screen leaving away information less relevant for the reader. The text will be displayed for you in grey, if you are logged in as a admin member:
(adminGroup) This is an internal but not secure comment.
(adminGroup)Formatting also applies.
5. You can also type comment lines that will show only in the edit mode, as notes that will not appear when browsing the article. To fully read the following text, edit this page:
This is
a text
commented with double slash // at the begining of the lines.
This doesn't affect your code comments:
// This is a comment $string = strstr( $hay, $needle ); |
The Print and Fax modes are also very convenient to copy/paste the
article (or parts of it) in another document, as well as to export
the article into HTML. This copy/paste procedure usually keeps the format given to the text, and in programs like OpenOffice also pastes images.
Text formatting for printing
These are some tips useful for printing articles from the WIK using the Print or Fax modes, directly from your internet browser.
Font size
The font face and size of your printed page can be controlled through your internet browser options. In Mozilla 1.7, for example, you can go to Edit > Preferences > Appearance > Fonts and set font size to 12 for both Proportional and Monospace fonts before printing.
Headers and footers
Also, for printing documents you may want to change or deactivate the headers and footers that your browser automatically inserts (page URL, page number, date and so on), and change the margins. For this, you usually go to File > Page Setup > Margins & Header/Footer.
Link format and colors
The link colors are determined in the templates for Print and Fax modes, although you can force this through your browser preferences.
Also in that preferences you control if you want the links to be underlined or not. For printing, you may want to disable underlining. The Fax mode does not underline links.
